GCA Cricket League: GPA CC Smash Bombada by 36 Runs 8 wickets

By Ousman G Darboe

The Gambia Ports Authority Cricket Club (GPA CC) on Sunday smashed Bombada Cricket Club by 36 runs in just 4.4 overs in the ongoing Gambia Cricket Association’s T10 Cricket League.
Ports, as they are known in the Gambia’s cricket community, were champions of cricket in the country for many years before their title would be taken from them by the current defending champions Brikama United Cricket Club for the past four years.

On the other side, the Bombada cricket club is Brikama United CC’s developmental team that rise to be their second team and made a name for themselves in the GCA domestic cricket league.

On their Sunday’s game, Bombada batted in the first innings and scored 34/7 runs in 10 overs to set a target record of 35 runs for the Ferry boys.

After coming into the second innings, the Ferry boys waisted no time to chase the targets and scored 36/1 runs in 4.4 overs, they eventually won by 8 wickets.

Reacting to the game, Peter Campbell, the captain of GPA CC stated “today’s game was not a league game to me, it was a very cheap one, we were just too strong for these boys.”

In a post match interview Abubacarr Kuyateh the Head Coach of Bombada stated that; the defeat was not a surprise to him because they knew their opponents were too strong to win the match.

Mr. Kuyateh said cricket is a big boys game and his boys are too young to defeat the former Champions.

“We do not expect a young team like Bombada to come and defeat Ports like that.
If Bombada happens to win against Ports at this stage is going to be the biggest upset,” Kuyateh explained.

For Kuyateh, Bombada did not come to the game to defeat Ports but to show their strength and talent while preparing them for the future, as most of these players will one day play for the Brikama United main cricket team.
