The Gambia Team B male beach volleyball team duo Modou Ngum and Laity Nyabally have been knocked out of the ongoing African Beach Volleyball Senior Nations Cup by Botswana duo Jack and Chiswansio after losing the golden set 12-15. The first set ended 21-15 second set 20-22 before the final set ending 12-15.
The duo won the first set but failed to win the second set and the deciding golden set that sends them to packing. After winning the first set, fans and well-wishers were already celebrating and chanting #RoadtoQuarterfinal before been surprised by Botswana’s duo.
The celebration and chanting were cut short after Jack and Chiswansio find their feet and resurrect from the first set defeat to win the round of 16 tie to book their place in the last 8.
In what seems a learning course for Ngum and Nyabally, their strength only yielded them a round of 16 finished at their first ever international beach volleyball competition.
In the other match, Gambia Team A male beach volleyball team duo Amadou Jarju and Jahara Koita beat Togo duo Samani and Kotoka 2-0 at the African Beach Volleyball Senior Nations Cup 21-18, and 21-14.
Unlike Ngum and Nyabally, Jarju and Koita enjoyed an easy ride as Samani and Kotoka of Togo could not match their strength in Agadir, Morocco. Africa number two win comfortably and now make it to the quarter final of the African Beach Volleyball Senior Nations Cup.
As of January, 2022 ranking, Amadou Jarju and Jahara Koita are ranked 127 with 520 points globally which have put them number two in Africa. The Gambia beach volleyball teams are the champions of African Games and bronze medalist of CAVB continental cup finals.
